Would you like to become a leader in accessibility? We’re excited to announce that this fall, the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) will be offering the Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification™ (RHFAC) Accessibility Assessor Training course for the first time. This 48-hour course is the first step to qualifying for an RHFAC Professional designation, providing you with the knowledge and practical skills needed to rate a building for its overall accessibility under the RHFAC program. Join an up-and-coming profession, and learn to view barriers in the built environment from the perspective of people with disabilities.

Register for the fall session at SAIT in Calgary, AB:

November 21-24 & December 5-8, 2018

Prerequisites include:

You have a diploma of technology in architecture, engineering, urban planning, interior design or a related program; or
You have a Journeyman Certificate of Qualification in a designated trade related to building construction; or
You are an engineer or are eligible for registration as an engineer; or
You are an architect or are eligible for registration as an architect; or
You have a minimum of five years’ experience related to building construction.

Why take RHFAC Accessibility Assessor Training?

As our population ages, more people will experience temporary or permanent disabilities. Recent research demonstrates that almost 50% of Canadian adults have or have experienced a permanent or temporary physical disability, or live with someone who has. You will learn to understand accessibility from the perspective of people with mobility, vision, and hearing disabilities.

This intensive course provides the knowledge and practical skills needed to review commercial, institutional, or multi-family residential settings for meaningful accessibility. You’ll be trained through interactive instructor presentations, in-class exercises, disability simulation experiences, reading assignments, and small and large group work. The course is designed for professionals with experience in the built environment, such as architects, engineers, urban planners, interior designers, and designated building trades.
